Taking the Next Step: Your DUI Program Options with SCADP
A DUI conviction can feel like a major setback, but it can also be the start of something better. If you’ve been ordered to attend a state-licensed DUI program, you may be facing uncertainty, but you don’t have to face it alone.
Southern California Alcohol and Drug Programs (SCADP) can help you turn this moment into an opportunity for change. With a range of DUI programs tailored to your needs, SCADP not only helps meet your legal requirements—it gives you the tools to move forward with confidence and begin reclaiming control of your life. SCADP adheres to court and DMV reporting requirements, and services are available in both English and Spanish.
“SCADP walks you through program requirements, options, costs, and payment options to help guide your path to making positive life changes and meeting their legal needs,” said Annette Ahumada, SCADP program manager. “We’re here to help you succeed.”
First Offenders
A first-time DUI doesn’t have to define your future. Programs are designed to encourage participants to think about their attitudes and behavior choices, support positive lifestyle changes, and reduce or eliminate the use of alcohol and/or drugs. Program length depends on BAC. SCADP offers these First Offender programs:
- Wet Reckless programs for individuals convicted of reckless driving with measurable blood alcohol content (BAC). Though it is a criminal offense, a wet reckless driving conviction is considered less severe than a DUI conviction; it still requires a 12-hour DUI education program.
- Three-month, 30-hour alcohol and drug education and counseling programs;
- Six-month, 45-hour programs that include education classes, assessment, and group and individual counseling; and
- Nine-month, 60-hour programs for first offenders with a BAC of 0.20% or higher, which include education classes, group sessions, individual interviews, and self-help meetings.
Second and Third offenders
The 18-month program provides individuals convicted of their second or third DUI offense with longer-term support through education, group counseling, individual interviews, and community reentry monitoring. Participants address the patterns and triggers that lead to repeated DUI offenses, learn to develop coping skills, and make lasting lifestyle changes.
Multiple offenders
The 30-month program for multiple repeat offenders requires at least 78 hours of group counseling, 12 hours of alcohol and drug education, 120 to 300 hours of community service, and close and regular individual interviews. Individuals committed to the program will learn tools for relapse prevention and long-term sobriety support with a focus on accountability.
“Completing a DUI program takes a huge commitment, and is something to celebrate,” Ahumada said. “It’s so important to maintain the progress you’ve made. We can help you connect with continued support through community resources, counseling, or even alumni groups as you rebuild and take control of your life.”
